Boost renal health with yoga mudra for kidney problems

The kidney is very important to cleanse our body and flush out toxins from the blood. So any kind of kidney problems affects the whole body function. Treatments are expensive and very time-consuming. Only taking medications and surgery are not always helpful.

Curing Kidney Problems with Yoga Poses


Sphinx pose: It helps to massage abdominal organs including kidney, makes the spine strong and spreads the chest and shoulder.
Lie down on your stomach. Keep your forehead on the ground. Place your legs near to each other so that the heels and feet touch each other. Stretch your hands straight and let your palm and arms touch the ground. Slowly lift your head, chest, and abdomen and breathe deeply. Maintain the balance with your arms by touching the ground and keep your head straight. Try to curve your spine. Then slowly breathe out and release.

Big toe pose: This pose is useful for kidney and liver stimulations. It also relieves stress, anxiety and calms the nerves. It is beneficial for our digestion system.
For this, stand straight on the floor with your feet six inches apart. While exhaling slowly, start bending and place the index and middle fingers of both hands between your big toes and second toes. Then try to grip the big toes by curling. Press your toes down firmly and wrap the thumbs around the curled fingers. If you cannot reach for your toes fully then trainer may suggest you use a belt. Then take a deep breath and try to stand up and keep your elbows straight. Try to be in that position for a few seconds and then slowly get up. If you have back or neck injury then do not do this pose.

Baddha Konasana: This pose helps to compress the kidneys and enhance effectiveness.
For doing that first sit on the ground upright and keep your hands on the floor and legs outstretched. Slowly grab the heels with the palms and bring them near your pelvic region. The soles of the feet should be touching and while holding the feet flap the knees like a butterfly. Do this as longs as you can.

Boat pose: It helps to tones and stretches the kidneys and other abdominal organs. It improves functions.
Sit down on the floor with your legs stretched straight outside. Place your palms behind the hips. While exhaling slowly bend your knees and lift your feet up from the floor. Your thigh should be angled at 45 degrees to the ground. Keep your legs straight, lift them up in the air as much as possible. Keep your arms extended parallel to the ground and relax. Try to do that for 30 seconds. Your stomach should be empty for this posture.

Kapalabhati Pranayam: This is very popular and effective to smooth the body function. It calms the nerve and mind. It decreases the high creatinine level, improves the kidneys’ functions and thus helps to get rid of kidney problems.
Sit on the floor with your back straight. Rest your right palm on your knee and left palm on the left knee. Then close your eyes and start to inhale slowly. While exhaling, make a hissing sound. It is basically a breathing exercise where inhalation is done slowly and releasing breath is done forcefully. Try to do that for 5-10 minutes.

Anulom vilom: It is another breathing exercise which is very good to fight kidneys problems. This also helps to lower down the creatinine level. It decreases our stress and tension.
To do this, sit down on the floor and block the right nostril with your right thumb. Now breathe in with the left one and close the left one and breathe out with the right one. Here you have to inhale with a nostril while closing the other one. Then you have to exhale with another nostril while closing the first one. Do that repeatedly for 5-10 minutes.

Child pose: It stimulates the nervous system and gives relief from kidney stones. It improves digestion.
To do that, sit down on the floor with Vajrayana pose. Then move your knees and thighs slightly away from each other. Then slowly try to bend forward and let your forehead touch the ground. Keep your arms straight and extended and let your palms touch the ground. Try to be like that for 25 to 30 seconds and get back to the previous position.

Lift legs: It helps to massage kidneys and removes kidney stones. It improves the digestive system and abdominal muscle strength.
Lie down on your back on the ground. Rest your hand on the sides of your body. Inhale slowly. Raise your legs slowly first at 30 degrees, then 60 degrees and finally up to 90 degrees. Stay like that for 10 seconds and exhale. Then lower down the legs slowly again at 60 degrees, then 30 degrees and finally rest them on the ground. Repeat the process.

Camel pose: It improves digestion and prevents developing kidney stones.
Kneel down on the ground and keep your hand straight on each side. Then slowly bend backward and try to touch the heels. Hold the heels and keep like that for 5 minutes. Then slowly go back to the first position.

Wind releasing pose: It increases the kidney's efficiency and improves blood circulation and helps the nervous system.
First lie on your back, slowly raise your legs up and inhale. Then fold your knees and bring them near your chest. Keep the knees and ankles close. Hold the knees tightly with your arms around them. While exhaling lift your head up and try to touch the knees. Release the hold after a few seconds.
Though medical science has not agreed experts claim that exercises such as yoga can definitely improve kidneys deteriorating condition. Strict diet and decent lifestyle are important to control cholesterol and overweight. Get trained under a professional person. Always consult a doctor and go for a regular health checkup.
