What is Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar) Yoga?

Sun Salutation or Surya Namaskar is one of the most beneficial elements of yoga practice and comes with seriously key benefits. Each salutation begins and ends with the joined hands-mudra (gesture) or namaskar mudra which is positioned right in the middle of the heart.

The Sanskrit word namaskar translates as- “to bow to” or “to adore.”  It is a set of yoga poses that can be performed while chanting different mantras.  The best time to practice Surya Namaskar is in the early morning when the air is filled with life and energy. It should be performed facing east during the first rays of the early morning Sun. Practicing the series of 12 postures in a row, it awakens the body and intelligence to create energy directly from the Sun.
