How to cure liver disease naturally with food and herbs

Sep 12, 2019

The main functions of the liver include digesting food and eliminating toxic substances from the body. The diseases related to the liver are either inherited (genetic) or caused by a variety of other factors like a virus and overuse of alcohol. Over time, the increased level of damage to the liver results in cirrhosis – leads to the failure of the liver, a threat to life itself.
Natural Ways to Help Treat Liver Disease

Naturopathy and herbs for the treatment of liver diseases

Recent researches on food show that numerous natural agents employ protective therapeutic effects on the liver. Also, few of the nutritional herbal supplements have mechanisms that make it helpful for the liver. Natural medicine is a therapy to treat human diseases which relies on natural agents and their derivatives. It diagnoses and prevents some of the human sicknesses. This has been used for several years for the treatment of human diseases.
Components used in naturopathy exist in nature (with no chemical additives) and undergo very little processing. Naturopathy has proven to cure a number of liver diseases. Combine apt eating habit and lifestyle in daily practice to manage liver problems. Natural medicine, unlike allopathic medicine, aims to cure the cause of an illness rather than symptoms. Naturopathy relies on natural healing power. It finds the root cause of disease and treats the patient. Most of these medicines are prescribed by certified physicians.
Herbs have been using to treat liver diseases since ancient times. Avicenna, a famous physician of the ancient era, introduced many plants, drugs, and formulas that helped the treatment of liver diseases. At present, the efficiency and safety of herb to treat liver diseases have been established by clinical studies. Some of the herbs used to treat liver diseases are mentioned below:

Silymarin (milk thistle plant) – Silymarin has an ability to protect the liver. It is a mediator which treats liver and biliary disorders. The old age people used milk thistle to treat liver ailments and snake bites. In the Middle Ages, milk thistle was used to treat liver toxicity. At present, it is recommended to treat toxin-induced liver problems, liver cirrhosis, and as a supportive treatment for chronic diseases of the liver.

Long pepper – Long pepper is an ingredient used in Chinese medicine and Ayurveda. It costs low and is easily available. It helps in various ailments, such as inflammation, diabetes, obesity, depression, and cancer. It is rich in antioxidants and moderates the liver function. It has no major adverse effects. However, some studies report that it has exerted contraceptive activities and thus avoided during pregnancy and lactation.

Holy basil (Tulsi) – Holy basil is an important plant in various forms of medicines. According to a study, the combination of holy basil and silymarin produces a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects which helps cure liver diseases. It has no side effects and is considered non-toxic to humans. It is used to prevent/slow the development of cancer(yoga for cancer) and to protect against the injurious effects of radiation.

Coffee – Coffee is undoubtedly a well-known beverage. It is a rich source of antioxidants and several studies show that drinking coffee exhibits a better function of the liver. It is believed that two cups of coffee per day inhibit the development of liver disease. The main ingredient of coffee is caffeine. So, drinking coffee may have some features related to the abusive use of drugs.

Fruits – Fruits, such as apple and orange (the ones rich in citrus), have proven to be beneficial against several chronic diseases. A study confirms that a diet made of apples and orange (both rich in antioxidants) protects the liver from damage. However, fruits can give some of the patients an allergy.

Vegetables – Vegetables, especially those which are green and leafy, can be taken as a replacement to drugs in allopathic medicine. This treat and prevents any damage to the liver. Variety of other foods (foods for liver) and supplements contain components which are natural and are beneficial for the liver. The natural agents in these vegetables protect the liver from the life-threatening diseases.

Therapy for the treatment of liver diseases

According to a study, drug therapy effectively treats the life-threatening condition associated with cirrhosis and other chronic liver diseases. Therapies are available for some forms of liver diseases like hepatitis C and autoimmune hepatitis while for some others like portal hypertension is limited. This disease is associated with cirrhosis and other chronic liver diseases.
From the study, we learn that the drug sivelestat effectually lowers portal hypertension. This drug was safely used in patients with acute lung injury and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. This suggests that sivelestat decreased portal hypertension in patients with chronic liver disease. The study results in the development of new drugs and reusing of existing compounds to mark inflammation in the liver.
Bed rest was considered the supreme treatment for liver problems. Recent researches indicate this to be false since the muscle weight of the body should not decrease. Muscles are believed to flush out ammonia from the body and produce the energy required for the body. So, walking regularly and having a healthy routine for exercise is necessary. The body can recover from any liver problems if proper exercise and therapy are practiced. This will enable to avoid any surgery or other medication.
A recent study defines a cell therapy that promises to treat liver cirrhosis. The treatment involves a mixture of adult stem cells and bone marrow derivative – the macrophages which help regeneration of the cirrhosis affected the liver. A therapy where the cells from the same living being are infused (which encourages liver regeneration) is applied to study liver cirrhosis. This combined healing approach is a hope for other new treatments to be discovered for liver problems.
