Yoga for Indigestion – How to get rid of it

Indigestion is considered to be a stomach problem. It is when you feel uneasy in your belly while taking a meal or after meal. Burning or pain in the stomach is very common in a patient of indigestion. Indigestion is also called dyspepsia or an upset stomach. Indigestion is not a disease but, in some cases, it can be the symptoms of stomach diseases. You can feel the symptoms of indigestion occasionally or frequently. The symptoms of indigestion include nausea and vomiting, excessive gas in the stomach, bloating, fullness during or after the meal, pain in the belly, burning sensation in the upper part of the belly, extreme weakness, etc. You must consult your doctor if your discomfort in the stomach remains acute for weeks. Here are the signs that you should not neglect:

  • Black or bloody stools

  • Frequent vomiting or vomiting with blood

  • Extreme weakness

  • Loss of appetite

  • A dramatic loss of your body weight

As mentioned above, indigestion is not a disease at all, you can solve the problem through yoga poses that will give you relief from the problem.

Best yoga poses to treat indigestion

 

Spinal twist

Spinal twist one of the popular yoga poses which is suggested for the people of all ages. The pose is a blessing solution to indigestion problems. At the time of stomach problems, you may be stressed for the problem, but there is nothing to worry about. You just have to try it in a proper way. When you stretch your spine, it engages your internal organ to exercise which makes your stomach’s mussel stronger to digest food. The process is only possible by the spinal twist. This is an effective method to lessen your pain from annoying indigestion. To begin the exercise, first sit on the ground and keep your legs in front of you. Now you need to make your legs curve to your left hip, put your left foot on the right one. Make the twist of the upper body to the right. Turn your head and stretch the arms out to the right. Please try to remain in that position for 10 – 30 seconds.

 

Cobra Pose

 

As Cobra pose / Bhujangasana resembles a snake with its hood raised. The exercise helps to open the shoulders and neck and also to tone the abdomen. It is also helpful for people who have respiratory disorders. Follow the steps to start this life-saving pose. Lie on your stomach on the floor. Move the legs together in the following way during the pose. Your right palm will remain next to your right shoulder and the left palm next to your left palm. Put pressure on the upper body during the pose. Then, you will lift your chest towards the ceiling. Now try to spread the hands on the floor under your shoulders. This is an excellent pose that can reduce your problem of indigestion within a few minutes. It is totally up to you how you are doing the process. Now exhale and repeat the set two times. Keep in mind that you must not apply anything that is too hard for you.

 

Cat-cow pose

This is a yoga pose that gives a comfortable message to your spine and abdomen. The digestive tract is compressed and blood circulation of the internal organs begin to increase. Follow the steps to make a perfect cat pose. First of all, set your knees below your hips and your wrists at the same time your elbows and shoulders are vertically in the line with the floor. Your head should be at the center while you are looking at the floor. Next, you have to exhale, keeping the shoulders and knees in the proper position. Now lower the head toward the floor. After that inhale and back to the normal position. This yoga exercise provides you with lots of benefits. This pose helps in flexing and extending the spine that improves circulation in the discs located in your back. This pose can help you to improve circulation in the discs in your back. This is a unique yoga pose to boost up or generate the power of the stomach which will lead to solving your indigestion problems.

 

Ustrasana

 

The alternative of the yoga is camel pose that stretches and strengthens your internal organs. Moreover, it also relieves back pain and sets you free from stress or mental agony. This yoga has some sexual benefits that help women to overcome menstrual cramping. This is also very effective to remove indigestion.

 

Paschimottanasana

To keep your abdominal and pelvic organs fit, you need to exercise this yoga. It is also effective for the abdominal organs. Thus the pose is helpful for the patient of indigestion. At first, stretch the feet straight out which makes your toes flexed towards you. Inhale, raise your arms up. Now exhale and bend from your hip joints and focus on moving towards the toes with your chin. After that, your back will be straight and put your hands on your legs and focus on moving forward.

 

Knee twist

 

There are mainly two types of knee twists and this type of yoga pose can solve digestive problems immediately. First one is lying down knee twist. You need to lie flat on your back and position your knees at least 90 degrees. Spread your arms and twist your hips to one side and face the other direction and hold for 30 seconds. Rotate to the other side and hold for 30 seconds. The second one is seated knee twist- Your legs will be straight out in front of you while sitting on the floor. Bend your left knee and try to cross your right elbow over it. Please remain in the same position for 30-40 seconds.

 

Sphinx Pose

 

This stretches the abdomen and improves the blood circulation of the organs. Lie on your tummy if you feel well then slide your elbows underneath your shoulders and press your arms into the floor in front of you. Roll your shoulders back and lift your chest.

 

All of the above yoga poses are very effective and helpful to get rid of indigestion. The effectiveness of these exercises may vary from person to person. You should try at least 2-3 Yoga poses for indigestion before taking medications.
