From time to time you feel that aberrant feeling in one of your joints that keeps you in a stalled position, wondering why it happened. I can share a few information with you about that pain in your joint and how you can treat it. So, stay with me.

What is joint pain?

A joint is the part of the skeletal system where two bones are joined, such as the knee (Knee pain Causes), the shoulders, the ankle, the elbows, etc. Therefore, joint pain is a pain (of different degrees ranging from discomforts to minor aches to more severe inflammations or sensations) felt in one or more joints. Other symptoms of joint pain are swelling, redness of the skin, stiffness of joints, fatigue, increased temperature or fever and weight loss.
Why do my joints ache? – Causes of joint pains
Joint pain could be sourced from many unlikely reasons that could shock you. Let’s examine a few major causes of joint pains in the body. These include:

  • Arthritis: This is the major cause of pains in the joints either as osteoarthritis (OA) – that is age-resultant arthritis commonly in adults above 40 years of age with signs of stiffness, swelling and restriction to motion or rheumatoid arthritis (RA) – arthritis pain resulting from a cartilage dysfunction in absorbing shocks in the joints with common signs of numbness and tingling sensation in toes, wrist and fingers and then spreading to other joints.
  • Gout: This is another type of arthritis resulting from crystals locked up in the joints. These crystals are formed from the excessive uric acid in the blood. The aches could be very severe, accompanied by redness and swellings.
  • Septic arthritis: This is a case when the joint pockets are being affected by bacteria or fungus that is sourced from the blood. This could result in swellings, soreness, and excruciating pain.
  • Viral arthritis: Just as the name suggests, this is caused by viruses such as alphavirus, chikungunya virus, etc.
  • Hemarthrosis: This is caused by bleeding such as hemophilia, a tumor growth, a postsurgical complication or blood cloth that could be locked in the joint spaces that could lead to stiffness and pains.

Other forms of arthritic joint pains are polymyalgia rheumatics, systemic lupus erythematosus, Hypothyroidism , fibromyalgia, cancer effects, etc.
Other causes of joint pains that could lead to severe pains in the aches are anxiety, depression, bad posture, sleepless nights, stress, accidents or injuries and so on. However, it may go away in a couple of days if managed properly with adequate rest and comfort.

Again, it is important to note that joint pains could require urgent medical attention, especially when symptoms like high fever, unexplained weight loss, weakness, soreness and swelling, numbness and general weakness of the body.
