Reasons for and prevention of stomach disorders

Stomach plays a very vital role in digestion. It helps to break down the foods into pieces with the help of different types of enzymes. So any stomach disorders or infection affects the whole body function. The diseases are uncomfortable, painful and exhausting. The whole body collapses due to lack of energy and low appetite.

Reasons for stomach disorders

Stomach flu: Normally abdominal pain with nausea, vomiting, gas, bloating and loose bowel movement is experienced very frequently. The body feels tired and exhausted. Viruses or bacteria are the main causes of this problem. Flu can be spread from unhealthy food and drinks. Lots of fluid especially oral saline is needed at this time. If the problem does not stop within two days, doctors may prescribe a few medicines. Stomach flu is named as diarrhea for severe cases. In our stomach, the food is digested in a liquid form. Those which are not digested are sent to the intestine and colon. There, the water is absorbed and the solid part is left to be out as bowel. The viruses and bacteria can interrupt the cycle and thus cause diarrhea. Two types of diarrhea are found – one is acute diarrhea which lasts for a few days and another one is chronic diarrhea that needs a longer time to recover. Food poisoning can be the reason for stomach disorders as well.

Gas and Gastritis: The problem occurs from having a certain type of food especially too much oily, fried and junk food. If the body finds it difficult to break down during digestion process, then gas released by stomach bacteria situated in the small intestine may cause pain. The pain can be mild or severe. Certain type of medication can lower the problem. People with food intolerance also face this painful situation.
In the stomach, there are acids for helping digestion. There is also a wall lining protected by mucus. If it is swollen and disturbed due to some reason the acidity will increase. The upper abdominal pain, vomit, and heartburn can be experienced as well. These are the symptoms of Gastritis. The appetite is lost and pain increases with time if it is not being treated properly. Patients may pass stool containing blood. If it continues, it may create a hole on the stomach wall.  

Gastroparesis: In this case, the stomach cannot function properly, the food stays there motionless and causes indigestion. Vomit, nausea, stomach pain, fullness, and loss of appetite are the few symptoms for this disease. The patient does not feel hungry. Diabetic patients may face this problem. Cancer or stroke can cause the problem as well.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): People with IBS problem face a hard time to digest food. Cramping, gas, abdominal pain and bloating are the few symptoms for this problem. People find relief after bowel release.

Constipation: Constipation can cause Stomach disorders too. If the problem is very serious it can cause pain
in the abdominal area and also in the colon. Lots of fluid and food with high fiber are helpful in this situation. If the problem still persists, then consult a doctor.

Food intolerance: People with food intolerance may face stomach disorder also. Lactose intolerance, gluten or any kind of food allergy may cause this problem. Proper medication and care are needed. Celiac disease happens when a person has a gluten allergy and causes diarrhea and bloating.

Other causes: Cancer is a complicated disease which disrupts the whole body function. Stomach disorders can be a symptom or reaction of chemotherapy for this disease. Cancer in the stomach, pancreas, and colon or in other abdominal organs can cause problems in the stomach. Jaundice is also responsible for stomach disorders. Also, Crohn's disease, cyst, urinary tract, and bladder infections, and acid reflux can be responsible for abdominal pain and discomfort. Sometimes taking strong medications (aspirin, narcotics, anti-inflammatory drugs) for other problems can also create the disorder as the medicines’ side effects. Doctor’s advice is definitely needed to mitigate the situation.

Prevention from stomach disorders
To solve any problem we have to find out the reason behind that. An unhealthy lifestyle can affect our health and cause complications. Skipping a meal or not to eat a proper meal is harmful to health. Instead of eating quickly, try to chew the food slowly. Don’t keep your stomach empty for a long time. The roadside foods which are prepared in an unhealthy environment are full of germs. Those are needed to avoid. Water is needed for digesting food. Drink lots of water and fresh homemade juice. Impure water contains lots of viruses and bacteria which causes stomach disorders as well. Soda or other beverage can cause gas too. Alcohol, smoking and having too much caffeine are harmful habits. Tobacco produces more gas and disrupts stomach function. Drinking too much alcohol can cause ulcer, gastritis and lever and stomach cancer. Due to the busy schedule, we don't get time to have home cooked food. Outside food contains trans fat, cholesterol, oil, preservatives, too much spice and other chemicals which are bad for us. It is needed a longer time to digest those. Our body does not get the necessary vitamins and minerals from that. Due to a lack of vegetables, fruits, and fiber, the body may experience constipation. Wash your hands, fruits, and vegetables before eating or cooking. A balanced diet is a must to get a healthy life. People with food intolerance have to be careful about whatever they eat. A dietician may help you to prepare a perfect food chart.

Normally, if it is not a serious problem then it will go away within a few hours or in a day with proper resting and mild medicines. But if there is an abnormal pain or discomfort in the stomach, then it should be treated immediately. Any delay can increase the complication. To find out the root cause, regular health check-up is necessary. Do not take any medicine without consulting the doctor and follow the advice correctly. Always live a healthy life to avoid any kind of stomach related problem.
