It is not only a big factor to a person’s physical health, but it also plays a major role in how he thinks and performs at his job or any other activities he has to go through each and every day of his life.

Am I Suffering from a Sleeping Disorder?
You may wonder if you are experiencing a sleeping disorder or not. There are many types of sleeping disorders, and each one has its own set of signs. In general, if you are having one or more of the following symptoms enumerated below, then you may have a sleeping disorder that needs fixing soon.

  1. Difficulty in falling asleep.
  2. Difficulty in staying asleep.
  3. Anxiety and easily getting irritated.
  4. Lack of concentration.
  5. Getting tired easily.

Your Diet and Sleeping Disorder
There are many possible causes of different types of sleep disorders. It is important to note that certain factors play an important key to fixing it. One of which is the types of food that you incorporate into your daily diet. While there are foods that contribute to better sleeping, there are also foods that you need to avoid.

Here are some Best Foods that can help get rid of sleeping disorders

  • Turkey – There are certain types of protein or amino acids that contribute to a night of better sleep. One of which is the amino acid called tryptophan. This amino acid stimulates the body to produce more of the hormone called melatonin. Melatonin is responsible for making you sleepy at night. Thus, better production of it makes sleeping disorders go away. Aside from being a good source of protein, turkey meat is also loaded with vitamins and minerals like selenium, phosphorus, and riboflavin.
  • Kiwi – To sleep better each night, another chemical your body needs is serotonin, which is actually found in the brain regulating the cycle of your sleep; and, kiwis are loaded with it. A single serving of kiwi can provide you with enough sleep-inducing chemicals for a good night's rest. On top of that, kiwis are loaded with antioxidants that also contribute to fixing sleep disorders. Moreover, it is also beneficial to your digestive health (food that will aid in digestion), making sure that you won’t get any digestive disturbances during the night. This is due to the fact that kiwis are loaded with lots of fiber.
  • Almond – Almonds are excellent sources of nutrients like riboflavin, manganese, and phosphorus. Eating almonds can help you fall asleep faster by reducing the levels of cortisol in your body. Cortisol is a hormone that is produced when you are stressed and it is responsible for preventing you to sleep and interrupting it as well. Aside from keeping your body’s cortisol levels in control, eating almonds helps by regulating melatonin levels, which is commonly referred to as the sleep-inducing hormone. A handful of almonds before going to bed should be enough to help you enjoy its benefits and become more energetic the next morning.
  • Chamomile Tea – One of the many culprits behind sleep disorders is stress. Consequently, if you are able to address it, you will be able to rid yourself of whatever sleep disorder you are suffering from. One of the best ways to achieve that is by drinking chamomile tea before bedtime. This tea is known to reduce anxiety and stress. In other words, it will help you relax when it is almost time for bed, assisting you in forgetting all the things that you need to worry about at your work or any other aspect of your life. Aside from its calming effects brought about by it's antioxidant called apigenin, chamomile tea is also a good source of nutrients and other antioxidants responsible in reducing inflammation, boosting the immune system (foods for immune system), thereby preventing heart diseases and even cancer. Even by simply thinking about its health benefits, chamomile tea would make you feel more relaxed, helping you sleep earlier, deeper and longer.
  • Fish – Unlike other fats, the fats that you can find in fish is actually beneficial. Fish fats or oil is high in omega-3 fatty acids as well as vitamin D. When you combine these two by eating fatty fish, you are essentially helping your body be rid of sleeping disorder since it induces your body to produce more of the hormone serotonin. This brain hormone will not just help you sleep faster, but it would also dramatically improve the quality of rest that you would experience.
  • Walnuts – This type of nuts is loaded with nutrients that induce sleep. It is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, linoleic acid, vitamins and minerals, and even fiber which all contribute to better health. These nutrients are needed by your body to have an increased amount of the hormone melatonin. Aside from inducing sleep, walnuts are also food to eat in order to have a healthier heart.
  • Oatmeal – Oatmeal can be consumed not just to reduce weight, but also to get rid of sleep deprivation. This is because it is loaded with fiber and certain carbohydrates that make you feel more relaxed at night. Moreover, it is another source of melatonin, which is why it is good to include this on your shopping list.

Do not forget that aside from eating the right kinds of food, you should also be aware of the amount of food you consume if you want to get rid of sleep disorders. Consume a lot during breakfast and taper it down as the day progresses. It is also best to avoid certain foods that can keep you up all night instead of helping you sleep. Some of them include eggplant, potatoes, peppers, salami, cakes, and candies. Be sure to avoid consuming caffeine at night as well as alcohol.

You may not like to eat certain food items that are listed above right now. However, if you are really determined in getting rid of sleep disorders, then it is time to step up. Always remember that we are a product of our habits. Take charge in making good habits today, such as eating the right types of food, so that by next week you will no longer crave for food that promotes sleep disorders.
