Mantra: Om

How to pronounce: A-U-M

Meaning: Lead us from the fake to the real
Lead us from darkness to light
Lead us from death to immortality

Mantra: Sat Nam 

Meaning: Truth is my name

Used in the Kundalini Yoga practice, Sat Nam can be a way to find your intuition. It is one of the famous Indian mantras. Sat Nam is a not a religious phrase. It is only a sacrosanct and universal sacred word that can be practiced no matter what your belief systems are.

Mantra: Om Shanti Shanti Shanti

Meaning: Om Peace Peace Peace

It is the fundamental type of Shanti mantra and one of the most famous mantras. Shanti Mantra is chanted for invoking peace and is very extensively used in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Shanti is recited thrice at the end for peace in the body, mind and spirit. It is also repeated thrice to make the past, present and future peaceful.

Mantra: yogena chittasya padena vacham malam sharirasya cha vaidyakena | yo ’pakarottam pravaram muninam patanjalim pranjalir anato ’smi ||

Meaning: With palms folded together,
I bow respectfully to Patanjali, the best of sages,
Who dispels the impurities of the mind with Yoga,
Of speech through Grammar, and of the body by means of Medicine.

This chant mentioning Patanjali, widely acclaimed as the harbinger of the  yoga tradition, is often recited at the beginning of Yoga classes or as an introduction to chanting the Yoga Sutra. It is practiced as a way to honour the ancient tradition and to express gratitude to the lineage of teachers. This chant also tells us that yoga is meant to cleanse the mind, while Ayurvedic medicine can restore the body, and that our speech (and our breath) is vital.

Mantra: Om saha nav avatu | saha nau bhunaktu | saha viryam karavavahai | tejasvi navadhitam astu ma vidvishavahai || Om shanti shanti shanti ||


Meaning: May we together be protected,
May we together be nurtured.
May we work together with spirit,
May our study be enlightening.
May we be free from friction.

This is a Indian mantra chant that is frequently sung at the before beginning a yoga lesson. It is also recited at the beginning of new opportunities to being in good luck and remove all hurdles from the path.

Mantra:  Om bhur bhuvah svah | tat savitur varenyam | bhargo devasya dhimahi | dhiyo yo nah prachodayat ||


Meaning: Earth, Heaven, the Whole Between, the brilliant divine power of the Sun. May we ponder the radiance of that god, may this inspire our knowledge.

This is one of the oldest Sanskrit yog mantra. It is a universal prayer and expresses the unity of all creation, regardless of its many forms. Reciting it invokes the light of the sun and helps us to surpass suffering.
