YOGA: An Effective solution to Liver problems

Sep 12, 2019

When it comes to health problems, perhaps the most common ones are the ones related to the liver. Many liver problems are hereditary whereas many are not. There are various treatment methods for these liver problems (Liver problem treatment) and diseases. But the problem associated with all these treatment methods is that each one would require the patient to take a lot of medicines. And these medicines would have certain side effects. There have been various studies that have proved that Yoga is a very effective solution to liver problems. But before taking up yoga as a solution to your liver problems, make sure that you do a lot of research.

Yoga Poses for liver function

Do a lot of Pranayama

Pranayama is the exercise for breathing available in Yoga. This exercise is very efficient in helping those who are suffering from liver problems. Cirrhosis and jaundice are two of the liver problems that can be effectively solved. In the common tongue, Pranayama is also called yoga skill shining breathing exercise. This type of Pranayama exercise is effective in stimulating the liver cells. This would help to cure liver diseases. If there are problems associated with the working of the spleen then Pranayama would be a very good option as well.

  • Pranayama is an exercise that should be done by sitting with your legs crossed. The seat should be an even one. These two things are important to ensure that the exercise works to its maximum potential.
  • Inhaling and exhaling should be done very forcefully in and out of the noses. Make sure that you do not use the mouths for the breathing problems.
  • Another important thing is that your focus should be on the breathing process. There shouldn’t be any other distractions. So, make sure that you do the exercise in a silent environment.
  • The exercise would be effective if it is practiced for at least 15 minutes daily. This time can be extended according to your expertise.

‘Ardha Matsyendrasana’ is one other effective yoga asana:

Another form of yoga that can be helpful in stimulating the liver cells and thereby helping in solving liver-related problems is the ‘Ardha matsyendrasana’. This asana is very effective in putting pressure on the liver. This, in turn, would help the liver to recover from the problems like fibrosis and apoptosis. Stress can also be relieved using this particular asana. After pranayama, this is perhaps one of the easiest asanas in yoga. So, this can be done irrespective of the age and flexibility of the person.

  • This asana should be performed by sitting on an even seat and the legs should be crossed. The left foot should be crossed over the right foot.
  • Make sure that the knee is raised and the knee should be pointed towards the upwards direction.
  • Move across and hold the left foot with your right hand. Press your left leg on your abdomen and then turn your head towards the right. These two things need to be done at the same time.

Doing ‘Dhanurasana' can also help to a large extent

In the common tongue, ‘Dhanurasana’ is also called the bow pose. Fatty liver is one of the most common liver problems. The reason which made this particular liver problem so common is the fact that the new lifestyle and food habits(foods for liver) that people follow have increased the chances of fatty liver. All the fat-rich junk food intakes have increased the fat deposits on the liver and turn in to a fatty liver. ‘Dhanurasana’ is helpful in strengthening the liver and also the excess fat deposits on the liver would be burned away because the fat would be taken as the energy sources.

  • This might seem like a difficult asana but, in fact, it is quite simple. The first step is to lie on your stomach. Next, raise your legs and chest. Both these should be done at the same time.
  • This should be followed by holding the two feet with your hands. This would make your body pose to look like a bow. And the hands and legs would look like strings.
  • The idea is to stay in the pose for as long as possible.
  • Once the decided time is over, you can return to the initial position. Make sure that you repeat the exercise for as many times as possible.

Try out the ‘Gomukhasana’

When it comes to the common tongue, this asana is called the cow face. The most common liver disease that affects people who are alcoholics is liver cirrhosis. The problem caused by this disease is that the flow of blood and thereby the oxygenation of the liver cells would be partially or completely blocked by the scars present on the tissues. The result would be a situation in which the liver is no longer able to remove the poisons and unwanted materials from the body. Since this is the intended function of a liver, the body would suffer from various other problems as well. ‘Gomukhasana’ would be able to effectively reduce the severity of the problem. In certain cases, the asana would also be able to completely cure the disease. But various food habits should also be adopted along with the practicing of asana if you need a very quick and effective result.

  • As a first step, stand on a level surface and then squat. When squatting, make sure that your legs are crossed.
  • The next thing to take care of is to keep your spine in a stretched position.
  • Take your hands and place them on your back. One hand should be on your shoulder and the other should be over your ribs.
  • Join your hands at the back of the body and stay in the pose as long as you can. Once completed, get back to the initial pose. The exercise is quite simple and should be repeated a few times.
